Do I need to own a dog?

Although the majority of members own at least one dog, it is not a requirement. There are many duties to fulfill that do not make use of K9's. The duties range from on scene radio operators to Public Relations Officers.

What training do I need?

To be an Active Member, NOVASAR requires certifications in:

Basic First Aid

CPR

Incident Command System

NIMS

NASAR Fundamentals of Search and Rescue (FUNSAR)

Where does NOVASAR go?

The majority of our calls are to the upper Ohio Valley and to Eastern Pennsylvania.

How old do I need to be?

To be an active field searcher you need to be 18 years of age.

How will I know when there is a SAR mission?

NOVASAR maintains a 24 hour 800 number where we are dispatched via pager to a SAR call.

Where is your station located?

At present NOVASAR owns no real estate for a station. Members respond from their home.

Training is held at state parks and forests or privately owned land throughout our coverage area.

Is NOVASAR insured?

Yes, NOVASAR maintains both West Virginia Workers Comp and a $1,000,000 liability insurance policy, which cover us in all 3 states.
